The UK's largest light festival, LUMIERE, returns to blaze a trail through Durham this winter with more than 30 installations including works by Tracey Emin and David Batchelor.  The biennial festival was launched in 2009, and the inaugural event attracted some 75,000 visitors from near and far.  The full programme will be announced later in the year, but will include the huge sound and light piece Crown of Light which returns by popular demand, and many other installations of every scale and type, by established artists as well as newcomers.

The Festival will open with a lantern parade through the streets of the medieval city created by Jo Pocock and her Liverpool Lantern Company in collaboration with 200 schoolchildren from all over County Durham.
